Vacation
Why do vacation weeks go by SO fast?!? Here’s looking forward to the April vaca! Good thing I work in the public schools —- I couldn’t give up the vacation schedule!
I'm baaaaack!
I know I haven’t written in a while….there’s been a lot going on the past few months. I promise to go into more detail at a later date. But today I just wanted to share a random thought.
I love all of the people that post on Facebook about what they got for Valentine’s Day by posting pictures of gifts, flowers, cards. We get it. You’re loved.
Sometimes FB really...

Hall Art
We’re working on hanging things in the basement. Funny since we haven’t completed hanging things on the first floor!
In the hall we put up a print from the front page of The Boston Globe when the sox won in 2004. We also have a wedding gift, our wedding date framed courtesy of Frame the Date . I love how you can pick different frames for your date —- ours has a rustic feel to...

Not at his best.
Bocce went to the groomer this weekend. He was way overdue. He had an appointment a few weeks ago, but it had to be canceled due to our crazy schedule.
I’m sure the groomer thinks we’re the worst parents in the world. But we just love his hair long. Typically it doesn’t get matted. This time it did.
So Bocce went from this:
To……well…..this….:
I...
Great Finds & Forward Progress
As promised, I’m finally updating the blog. Whoopie.
Before pics of the basement…I have to share two great finds I stumbled upon this weekend.
First, thank you Nordstrom Rack for having ONLY this pair of shoes in my size. Yes.
Second, thank you to my favorite grocery store (although not the one close to my house —- that one is STILL closed due to snow collapsing the roof last...

....and we're back!
Lost power for almost 24 hours, but that was it. It could have been much worse. Lots of trees down in town, but luckily none on our house.
I’m quickly learning that power outages are NOT fun, but are more pleasant in the summer then they are in the winter. Yesterday I ate 5 chocolate chip cookies, a liter of lemon seltzer, 2 cans of diet coke, a box of cheese crackers, some lettuce and a...
Lucky
I am so lucky to have such a kind husband. In preparation for the storm tomorrow he is over at our elderly neighbors house cleaning out her gutters. That makes me love him more than anything in this world. I’m a lucky girl (and so is my neighbor!)!
Am I the only one that says “DIE!” when killing a bug?!? Is this normal? I just realized today when chasing a bug around the house that when I finally smashed him (bugs are always male, duh) I said (very loudly), ‘DIE!’ before I could even think twice. I then realized that I say it every time I am in the act of destroying the nasty gross creatures.
The *NEW* living room
It’s still a work in progress, but here is the living room with the new couch and WITHOUT all the furniture and rug….
The picture is pretty dark…..but you can sort of see it…..here is a better picture of the couch:
Except our is a darker fabric.
Now, I’m waiting on the arrival of my new rug…..Thanks to Young House Love I used their coupon code to get 10%...

Couch
I couldn’t be more excited about the couch we just purchased. It has nailhead trim. You know I love me some nailhead trim.
Couch surfing
I’m on the hunt for a new couch….here are some that I have found…..still not sure what direction I want to go for the living room….
Crate and Barrel:
Pottery Barn:
Thoughts?!? Do I go for a small sectional or a structured sofa with a chair?!
This weekend, you can find me.....
here.
So, so needed after all the long hours put into the first floor recently….
Count Sisal
Our rug, Count Sisal as I’ve affectionately dubbed him, has been installed. It’s exactly what we wanted. Very classic, plain, can-do-anything-with kind of rug. It’s also pretty durable….we could lay other rugs over it to create certain areas in the room. Yippee…so pumped.
After picking our rug the company searched to see if they could find remnants left over from...
Amazing!
We’re looking to add a cable box to the basement and I contacted comcast over chat (because I can’t stand talking to them on the phone…I just don’t have the patience)…..and at the end of the conversation, they said this:
Amazing!!! ‘On your shoe’! I love when sayings aren’t translated perfectly……it makes me smile. I may just go with...
Sooo....
I’m pretty sure when the rug is installed (tomorrow! eek! yipee!) that I will move to the basement. I have every intention of spending all of my time relaxing in it’s glory and staring at my gorgeous wall.
Is it bad that our ‘first floor’ (ahem, basement) is by far and away nicer than our upstairs? Yes? I thought so. Ho hum. Guess what that means?!? Kitchen remodel! Garage...
My next project....
While I anxiously await the arrival of our rug (now delayed until tomorrow —- grrrr) I’m looking for my next project. I still have a few weeks before work begins, so I need something to make the time go by! Is it crazy that I’m actually semi-excited to get back to work?!?! Yeah, I thought so.
I really want to purchase this light for our bedroom/office downstairs:
Although I...
Wall Stencil, Day 4.
Holy wall stencil, batman.
I am FINALLY done after four days. Granted, day 1 was trialing a variety of stencils and colors and day 2 was determining placement and how to get things level —— but still, it was a four day process. I probably worked on it for about 5 - 6 hours each day. Yikes. I’m pooped.
It was worth it, thought. It looks INCREDIBLE! Well, in my humble opinion.

Wall Stenciling: day 3
I knew stenciling the wall would be a process, but I didn’t realize how much of a process it would be just to get started.
On day 3. I should finish today!
The good news is, it gives me something to do with my time!
The carpet gets installed on Wednesday and the shower is tiled!

The day I spent stripping.
Good title, right?!? I thought of it when I was stripping.
Not that kind of stripping. Duh.
Stripping paint. Yep. Me. Stripping paint. ALL. DAY. LONG.
Picture this, I’m outside with my stripping gear (clear plastic glasses/goggles, yellow gloves up to my elbows, mask, and of course…my ipod) in the dead of the afternoon. It was hot. It was so, so hot. And I was so not. I was...
It's painted!
So, after insisting that we were painting the basement, we decided to have professionals do it. Well, everything but the bathroom. We’ll paint that. I really, really love painting, but we’re on a time crunch now that our rug is scheduled to be installed next week. This weekend is devoted to the bathroom tiling, so there wasn’t much time. So, that’s that. I still promise to...
Wall Stencil
After debating a DIY wall stencil for the basement bedroom, I decided to go another route.
I attempted tracing a pattern in the rug, but that turned out to be tres impossible due to my own failure. Clearly, I can’t trace. I must have been absent that day in kindergarten.
Anywhoo….
Thanks to an amazon gift card from my beautiful sis (Hi Kristin!) I decided to make this purchase...
Update: Primer & Trim
I am so excited about the progress on the ‘first floor’. We’re no longer calling it a basement. It seems better suited as a ‘first floor’.
Oh, and things are really working our way right now (knock on wood!). The carpet gets installed next Wednesday, then we go away on vacation for a week, which will be just enough time to let the carpet fumes out. When we return...
Nantuckspiration
Just thinking about last week when I went to Nantucket and thought I’d post some iphone photos I snapped. I may have already shared these. If so, please call my doctor and have a scan and a MRI completed immediately. It must be early onset dementia.
The yachts. I mean, seriously. I think J. Lo is in there with her new boyfriend. So long, Marc Anthony.
Instead of working out, I choose to move furniture to different locations around the house. Yes, I wear workout clothes when doing this. And yes, it is imperative that I bathe after said workout.
Trim!
Things have already changed since snapping these photos….I debated putting them up as it looks waaaay better now…but, I want to document the progress. So, here we go:
View from the stairs looking into the movie room:
View from corner of the movie room looking out towards laundry and stairs:

Werk.
Bocce was working the cam today when I was taking photos of the trim, doors and columns. Given the high temps, I think the cement felt really good on his doggy tummy/chest/goods.
We need to call the cops and have this dog arrested for being too awesome. Don’t you agree?
Nantucket
I’ve done my fair share of traveling…and Nantucket continues to be one of the most beautiful places in all the world. After a quick trip to escape the heat, I feel the need to share some Nantucket inspiration….
Nantucket always seems fake to me. It’s un.be.liev.able.
The last two shots are in Sconset. It is this lovely little down on the other side of...
